Welcome to Sawyers Landing. My goal is to share things I see from our backyard and neighboring woods and trails.

And now the oak trees
They seem to be the last to turn and drop leaves. Here is the oak behind our fence. I kept waiting for the sun to come out and I think I got it...

Male call
Saw this guy in the woods this morning. I went outside (I thought quietly) and he moved out of view. He came back and I caught him munching on honey locust seed pods.

Still fireworks happening
Many of the trees have lost their leaves and the wind and rain helped get rid of some color but the maples are still shining and the oaks have yet to really turn.
This tree was shown a few days ago but is one of my favorites in the neighborhood. You'll recognize the shot looking up but I also wanted to show the full tree with some light on it...(taken today)

Common buckeye
I'm usually watching for monarchs or swallowtails, but this common buckeye caught my eye today. It's a medium-size butterfly but has very interesting patterns. You can see the size compared to a dandelion...
My bush is still blooming
This is a post for my dear mother-in-law Ruth. It may be October 21, but "our" bush is still open for business. I will expand my chicken wire in the spring to allow for growth.
If you look from the top, there are as many as four blooms still with color.

Front yard color palette
A few images from our front yard (I bought the big pumpkin and the rest were grown by Steve out by his office).
Fall color
Does this purple count as a "fall color"? This is a picture taken today. I would say it's a good sign heading into winter.

Eating Around the Bush
Saturday afternoon Russ sounded the alarm and I saw a doe and her two youngsters. You can imagine with them right at the fence he was on high alert. I literally have to remove him from the back bedroom to muffle the barking so I can get some decent pictures.
Here they are...
Here they are...
Just a nice Saturday afternoon to munch on anything green...
I was watching mom as she worked around my butterfly bush but she left it alone...
Here are a few more pictures of the mother...
And the youngsters...
