I was looking at the back window this afternoon and saw a Downy Woodpecker flying around the backyard along with many other types of birds. I was looking down in the grass at some birds when a blur caught my eye and with camera luckily in hand, I was surprised to see this Downy not only fly to the window but grab on!
Welcome to Sawyers Landing. My goal is to share things I see from our backyard and neighboring woods and trails.

The Week in Review
I put my camera out last Sunday and brought it in this morning. That is the longest continuous stretch I've had it out. Unfortunately I didn't get any daytime pics but got some interesting overnight shots this week...
Look at these next four pictures. At first it appeared the buck might be running, but I think it was putting on the brakes wondering what the raccoon was doing.
"Don't stick your tongue out at me"
Nightwatch
Jon, this is for you (and for Halloween)
Simplicity
I've been lamenting the fact that I'm housebound all day and not getting out to take pictures of the fall colors. And just today I mentioned to Cindy how much yellow I've been noticing. Well, God was listening because I saw this image this afternoon in my backyard. A simple expression of fall colors right at home...
Unknown cause
Sorry to report that the gazing ball in front of our house was broken yesterday mid-afternoon. Cindy said it sounded like an explosion. Clearly it was vandalized. It makes us sad to know someone damaged something in our front yard.

Return of the "prairie wolf"
Early morning visit from this coyote. My time stamp is a little off but this is showing 5:30am. I could have been outside. Russ was barking at something around that time...

The buck stopped here (last night)
I showed a picture of this guy to Steve and he said "nice buck!" I hadn't put my camera out for some time. With the weather changing I thought it was about time. Had good results overnight. They do like the honey locust pods and we have plenty of those.
And a bonus doe...
