My respected birders in Kansas don't feel that's what I was seeing. I read that they are flycatchers which wouldn't suggest them ground feeding like they were. Eastern Phoebes are early returnees from winter so March would not be out of the question from what I'm reading. The coloration was consistent with my bird book. But I stand corrected. I got overly excited thinking I was seeing something new. Upon further review, I feel I saw a bunch of female Dark-eyed Juncos. And because they were not mixed with males, they appeared to be a different bird.
