Always a good day at the feeder when I see an American Goldfinch

I was excited to get my Red-bellied Woodpecker but I felt like my winter feeding season was missing an American Goldfinch.  And today I was fortunate to get more than one.  You'll also see a White-breasted Nuthatch joining in...

I realize these pictures can start to look alike but I like to find small differences like what type of seed is in its bill and is there more than one bird on the feeder (got lucky this day)...

Accidental terrarium

I was out in the woods yesterday and saw this Coke bottle.  Keep in mind it's only February.
I could see dirt/mud inside and also something growing.  It reminded me of a terrarium.  It has been warm but I wouldn't have expected it to be warm enough....

 

I also saw this interesting tree that I hadn't noticed before...
